Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic: No bones about it – A.C.E. delivers on parking lot challenges

Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic in Manitowoc (formerly Orthopaedic Associates of Manitowoc) on North 10th Street has long faced a parking challenge. But A.C.E. Building Service’s site improvement capabilities changed all that this past summer. That’s when work was underway on the lot the facility had purchased next door for expanded parking.

The project entailed tearing down the home located on the lot and then crafting a site plan that would maximize parking. “We worked on getting the most parking spaces we possibly could out of the space while also maintaining a safe traffic flow around the site,” said Chris Herzog, LEED AP, project development, A.C.E. Building Service.

Practice Site Manager Jolene Szydel initially approached the project thinking she would do some of the contracting herself. “But that became quite cumbersome,” she said. “It’s the time, energy and talent to organize it. I learned a lot from making a few phones calls and knew we were best suited to leave it in A.C.E.’s hands.”

Orthopedics & Sports Medicine looked to A.C.E. for not only full-fledged project management but also complete site design. The parking lot construction included parking lot layout as well as storm water management and parking lot illumination. Szydel said it was a relief to have A.C.E. take care of all the city approvals required for the project and overall project management. In just four to five weeks, she was happy to have a newly paved lot for patients.

“It was an efficient-moving process and we couldn’t be happier with the results,” she said. “Customers can park closer to the building now and we are able to accommodate more patients. It’s nice to have a closer walk especially being in the orthopedic business.”
